Potential nutritive value and anti-methanogenic potential of pomegranate peel for sheep

The aim of the current experiment was to determine potential nutritive value and anti-methanogenic pomegranate peels obtained from 12 different fruits in Turkiye. There are significant variations among peel (PP) samples terms chemical composition, gas production, methane metabolisable energy (ME) organic matter digestibility (OMD). crude ash (CA), ether extract (EE), protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid (ADF) condensed tannin (CT) contents PP ranged 2.99 4.72%, 2.11 5.25 %, 2.53 6.36%, 20.79 27.29%, 11.71 17.96%, 0.79 3.39% respectively. Gas production CH4 41.07 57.22, 5.29 7.87 respectively whereas percentage 12.51 14.03%. ME OMD 7.92 10.84 MJ/kg 54.43 68.95% Although studied have low reduction potentials, CP not sufficient meet minimum level requirement for sheep. Therefore supplementation is required optimum rumen function feed intake ruminant animals when large amount were included into diets. However before implication, there a need vivo test mitigating effect samples.
